This has been a long time coming, one more Vogue feature with a plus size model in it. The May issue of British Vogue magazine featured 9 amazing models on the New Frontier spread and plus size model and body positive activist, Paloma Elsesser was one of the models on the cover. This wont be the first time Vogue would be featuring plus size models on their cover as they have had the likes of Ashley Graham, Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine and Robyn Lawley grace the covers and pages of the popular print. However, its nice to see the narrative still continues and plus size models have not taken the back seat when it comes to setting trends and breaking boundaries.
This new Vogue cover seeks to celebrate diversity across all boarders from race, size, socio-economic background, religion to sexuality offering a bold vision of what true the diversity should look like.
Paloma Elsesser was featured along side straight sized models; Halima Aden, Adut Akech, Radhika Nair, Yoon Young Bae, Faretta, Fran Summers, Vittoria Ceretti, and Selena Forrest for Vogues May spread. Photographed by Craig McDean and styled by Edward Enninful.
According to Vogue stylist Edward Enningful, “With the styling, I just wanted them to feel empowered, so chose a careful palette of khakis, blacks and creams so they’d feel ready for anything. Strong, powerful and poised for exciting futures”.
Expressing gratitude, Palomer said “Your unparalleled dedication to diversity has touched my life and ultimately so many others with this cover. It is a true honor to be included & I am forever grateful”
