Blogger Milk and Cookies: Jennifer From Bella Curves
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo is the pretty young thing behind BellaCurvesNG.com a fashion blog dedicated to plus size fashion and lifestyle with a focus on Nigerian style and culture. She is also a fashion designer who launch her brand along with the blog. She started the Bellacurves under a different name way back in 2013 alongside side her clothing line predominantly because needed a platform to reach the target audience for her clothes. As one of the only platforms for curvy women at time, she found herself a niche of women interested in curvy fashion content and wanting more. As she dug in, she became more aware of the curvy fashionistas on the scene and newer brands springing up too. She gives us a quick insight to her world.
How did you choose your blog name?
I started with the name Emerald Fashion Blog; which was kind of a cliché. It really didn’t represent the mission of the blog. So when I was ready to change the name, I chose Bella Curves NG meaning Beautiful Curves Nigeria” as it felt more like the soul behind the real idea.
Who was your original blogger crush?
I would say Gabi Gregg of Gabifresh.com. I discovered her blog in 2013. I admired her guts and how she embraced her body in this generation and when she did the swimwear campaign for Swimsuitforall, she stole my heart.
Although she runs a personal style blog while mine is a community blog, she inspired my belief that the Nigeria plus-size community would get together one day and take the business of plus fashion seriously. We are now getting there with events like PopUp Plus and co.
Have you ever gotten comment or feedback from a really famous person?
Quite a few actually! Bloggers like Inez of StyleChic360.com, Chante of EverythingCurvyandChic.com, Kristen of TrendyCurvy.com, Rochelle of Beauticurves.com, Nichole of Curvesonabudget.com, Lynda of Dear Curves Clothing, Idu of FashionableIdu.com and more. Idu has such a warm personality and I admire her a lot.
The hardest part about blogging for you is?
Blogging has always been fun for me from sitting at a computer screen for hours is never easy. its never easy. My blog represents a niche market I love and there’s nothing like doing what one loves. Blogging will always be fun for me…
Freebies are part of the perks of being a great blogger, what was the last complimentary package you received?
It’s really interesting when companies recognise and see a need to compliment your efforts. Bellacurves has received freebies and vouchers from few clothing lines and companies. The last was from Jumia which contained gifts worth over 25k!
