Tasty Tuesday: Delicious Gizzdodo

Gizzdodo! is the amazing combination of fried plantain, Chicken or Turkey Gizzard and Spicy fried tomato stew.

This Nigerian Yummy goodness is super easy to make and you can have it as breakfast, lunch and dinner.




Ripe Plantain

300grams of Gizzard

1 big ripe tomatoes and 4 medium size tomatoes

1 brown onions

1 small red onions

1 red bell pepper

1 habenero (atarodo)

1 bell pepper (tatashe)

2 cloves garlic minced

Vegetable Oil

Dried thyme

Seasoning Cubes

Curry powder




Wash gizzard properly, chop into very small bits and put in a pot. Add chopped onions, Seasoning cube, 1 teaspoon of curry powder and a little dried thyme. Add a little water and allow to boil.

Dice Plantain into small bits (as small as the chopped gizzard) fry in vegetable oil until brown then transfer to sieve and set aside.

Fry the gizzard in the same oil until brown (you can also grill your gizzard instead of frying)

Blend the atarodo(habenero), tatashe(bell pepper) and add half of the onions

Pour 1 cooking spoon of vegetable oil into a pot, when hot add the blended pepper, 1 seasoning cube, curry powder, dried thyme and salt to taste leave to fry. Then add 1 cup of stock and leave to cook for a few minutes.

When well fried, pour a little of your stew into a hot pot and add gizzard and plantain, then add more stew as desired and stir to combine. Leave to simmer for a few minutes.

Plate and garnish as desired and you Gizdodo is ready.

Gizdodo can be eaten with white rice, Jollof rice, coconut rice etc.
