Art Imitates Life In This Plus-size Exhibition!
The plus-size community continues to make significant strides within the fashion industry, from staging street campaigns to featuring in high-end magazines (British & American Vogue) shoots as well as walking the runway for top brands and fashion shows (cue, The ATCL Collective at Heineken Lagos Fashion & Design Week).
Photographer, Karizza collaborates with Artist, Angelina Demchenko to present an art exhibition in New York which is set apart for PSModels with the intention to salute their successes and celebrate their individuality.
“As a photographer who dedicates my work to the plus size community I decided to create this unique art concept in a collaboration with Ukrainian artist Angelina Demchenko”.
“I want people to stop thinking about full-figured girls only in terms of their size and show their individual character and wishes. Each artwork is full of symbols which relate to the model in it”, Karizza says.
“The exhibition also marks the start of High Fashion Plus, a blog and campaign focused on the development of fashion for the plus size segment”.
At the end of 2017, Karizza shot a photo of curvy model, Diana Sirokai recreating a nude Gigi Hadid campaign which went viral hence, it’s no surprise that she has been included in the project. The life-size painting has her on the cover of Vogue encircled by butterflies and flowers while the artwork of American model, Loralyee conceives her as Snow White on a hundred dollar bill.
Karizza’s plans to expand the project and keep it open to the public as they received a lot of encouraging messages and positive reactions.
